Ethnic Thursdays

I helped out Phuong and her teacher set up for the opening night of an exhibition as part of the State of Design Festival. The exhibit was the 'Housing Project' at Lamington Drive, just off Smith Street, Collingwood. The artspace is quite nice, airy, natural, minimal, natural light. The pleasant waft of timber lingered in the air.
'Made of cardboard for nice people'
Now I don't know much about interior design, but from what I learn from Phuong it's a whole lot conceptual. Miniature ceramic houses, apartment buildings and trees were hand made by senior citizens, primary and university students and adults/children from Art Play. these objects can be picked up and placed onto the white screen/machine to create a community. Each of these objects have a unique barcode underneath, which the machine reads and plays the soundscape relating to the object. Every object has a different soundscape.
The intention of this project is to allow the participant to interactively create a community, physically and audibly. To link people through sound. The technology took 2 years to develop.
'Housing Project'
We didnt do anything glamourous. I was there for about 2.5 hours. We had to set up a bar, cut up boxes and the put them together again -.- Then put together a 20 page publication x 303271093. I gave up at 3:30pm. I was getting a headache. It reminded me of my days show bag packing. I wanted to go home to my bentot.
