How language is used and abused. Swearing plays and important part in human communication all over the world.

- Offensive language depends on context
- Weasel words are used to disassociate our emotions from negative things e.g. concentration camps, special rooms, the final solution
- Euphemisms to protect delicate ears and avoid humiliation. Politeness is a euphemism. Euphemisms are most popular for sex and death. 'By not saying exactly what they mean, comedians get away with murder'
- Making something taboo only ads to its power. Swearing reduces pain and suffering but only when swearing is used sparingly in real life.
- Language can make you feel like you're part of a club
- e.g. gay language, slang
- Trolling = looking to pick up
- Goosh = decorational trim
- Language inspired and taken by language e.g. hip hop bringing langauge of the streets in the dictionary. whip, jet, diss, spit, gel, ice. Acting as a voice to the disenfranchised. Slang delivers a message quicker. Language is circulated through popular media all around the world e.g. music, movies, news,
- There is no right or wrong for language, its just a form of communication. Language should be celebrare in its creativity. Ignore purists and embrace the change.
