1. Those who genuinely practice and study art, design, photography, fashion, etc for their own passion and interest in it and
2. Those who study art, design, photography, fashion, etc because it's 'cool', or for the reputation it generates amongst peers who aren't artsy fartsy.
There are some people who like to be associated with the study of artsy fartsy things because of the image it brings. It annoys me because although these people obviously try very hard to DRESS the part, are actually SHIT at what they do. And the reason why they study the course, is because it gives them an excuse to cut their hair asymmetrically, wear intricate cowboy boots, use small brown leather bags, have a MAC or iPhone, ride a scooter, etc.
This is just try hard.
Subtleness is the key. I admire my talented and passionate fellow design students who wear their home clothes and trackies and slippers to uni. I don't want people in my face visually telling me, with their clothing, that they study design.
Now I'm not having a go at people who choose to dress artsy fartsy, because sure, everyone's got their own style. And I understand that not everyone who dresses alternatively studies some sort of art/design course. But my annoyance lies with the people who STUDY art/design courses, who LOOK like art/design students but actually DON'T excel at what they study.
In my opinion anyway.
